The Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) in Economic Geology (EG) is designed to enable outstanding UA Geosciences undergraduate students to complete both the BS in Geosciences (or Planetary Geosciences) degree and the Professional Science Master’s in Economic Geology in five years. The program is intended for students interested in enhancing their skill set and competitiveness in the mineral resources job market, as well as those aspiring for a government or academic career. It can serve a wide variety of student interests. Those interested in an industry track can complete an industry-focused project or internship, while those pursuing more academic goals should work on a master's thesis.
Requirements:
- Be a current, continuing University of Arizona undergraduate enrolled either in the BS in Geosciences (Geology, Geophysics, or Gem Science sub-plans) or the BS Planetary Geosciences.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
- A minimum of 12 undergraduate units must have been completed in the student's major at the University of Arizona's main campus.
- Completion of a minimum of 75 undergraduate credit hours at the time of application and 90 credit hours at the time of entry into the AMP.
- Completion or near completion of General Education requirements.
- Demonstration of necessary maturity for success in an accelerated, highly competitive program.
- Submission of a graduate application and payment of the application fee.
When and how to Apply?
During your junior year:
- Apply by February 15 if you are graduating with a BS in the Spring of the following year
- Apply by October 15 if you are graduating with a BS in the Fall of the following year
Applications for the AMP are submitted directly through the UA Graduate College (UA Grad App), and you must select the Economic Geology (PSM)-Accelerated Master’s Program.

During your senior year (overlap year)
- Complete BS degree requirements.
- Complete up to 12 units of graduate coursework
- Second semester of senior year - complete final application in GradApp to be admitted to the PSM program
